Meeting Value Expectations Through Supply Chain Management
The past few decades have seen supply chain management being focused on reducing the price of goods and services – which is an intuitive strategy. The assessment of pricing differences between sources is primarily based on the out-of-pocket costs and a factor to cover logistics.
What is not represented in the lowest price are the hidden costs of ownership. These can include health, safety, environmental and the loss of local social and economic development. The ability of private and public sector organizations to tap into the resources of social entrepreneurs and support small, medium enterprises has been underutilized.
How can supply chains expand the definition of value and contribute to our organizations and communities? The framework of social procurement strategies will be used to make the business case for leveraging the role of supply chain management’s role in conscious capitalism.
