YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS WORKSHOP:
Session 1 Introduction to Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP)
Purpose:
In this course, participants will be introduced to the concept of an Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) System. The course is designed to cover information concerning the integrated nature of ERP. The goal of the course is to challenge the participants to focus on their own organization as an integrated whole and to consider how an ERP system helps to link an organization together. The ERP model serves as a conceptual framework for developing an understanding of ERP.
Prior to implementing ERP in any company, it is important for everyone involved to understand what ERP represents to the company and how each person and functional area in the company will benefit from its implementation. It is important for the participants to be able to understand the concept of ERP beyond its definition as a software system.
Objectives
This session will provide participants with a basic understanding of the following objectives.
The participants will be able to:
- Describe the concept of ERP
- Define key terms as they relate to ERP
- Describe the basic ERP model
- Identify the five different ERP maturity levels
- Understand the transition from MRP to ERP
- State the benefits of ERP
- State the pitfalls of ERP implementation
Session 2 Developing an ERP Business Case
Purpose:
Before implementing an enterprise resources planning (ERP) system in any company, it is important for everyone involved to understand what an ERP system does and how each person in the organization is going to be able to benefit from its implementation. Being able to justify the implementation on paper---more important, in the form of a business case will be a powerful tool in getting total support throughout the organization.
Objectives
This session will provide participants with a basic understanding of the following objectives.
The participants will be able to:
- Quantify the need for change
- Identify and quantify results
- Identify initial acquisition and installation costs
- Recognize ongoing costs
- Calculate the return on investment (ROI) for an ERP system
- Write a business case to justify an ERP implementation

Brett’s experience comes from his work as a Distribution Manager, a Procurement & Materials Strategist, a Materials Manager, an Operations Manager, being the principal of his own companies and his current role as a Director of Services with Essential Software Solutions Inc (ESS). Brett is an APICS Certified “CPIM Master Instructor”, holds a designation as a Fellow in Production and Inventory Management (CFPIM) in addition to certificates in Operations Management (Honors) and Technology in Materials Management (Honors) from BCIT.
